Health Benefits of Kissing

Along with the display of love and affection, Kissing also has a number of health benefits associated with it, Learn about them in our today’s video.

We often consider kissing as a method to express our love and affection towards someone, however, do you know there are several health benefits of kissing which you might be completely unaware of? Yes, you heard it right, Kissing is more than just an expression of one’s love, as it provides a variety of health benefits as well. Kissing boosts mental and physical health, be it by reducing anxiety, fighting cavities or managing blood pressure. When you kiss someone, you are not just showing your affection, but also participating in one of the earliest mechanisms used for social bonding. And yes, kissing does make you feel alive as it stimulates the release of adrenaline and noradrenaline hormones which increase your heart rate and make you more alert.

Here are five health benefits of kissing.

1. Makes you happy

When you kiss, your brain releases chemicals such as oxytocin, dopamine, and serotonin, which helps you to make yourself feel happy and lower your cortisol levels which are stress causing hormones that help you to keep mood changes in check and make you feel happy and stress-free. As kissing helps reduce cortisol levels which is a stress-causing hormone, it could potentially enhance your feelings of self-worth, as the stress levels are on a lower side. The stress-reducing effect of kissing helps in motivation in our behaviour and hence reduces anxiety and stress.

 3. Lowers blood pressure and cholesterol levels

Kissing makes the blood vessels larger in size, which helps in reducing blood pressure levels. This happens as your heart rate increases while kissing, thereby dilating the blood vessels, which increases the blood flow and triggers a decrease in your blood pressure. Also, as the cortisol levels decrease when you kiss, the cholesterol levels are also decreased which helps in reducing stress up to a very great extent.

4. Fights cavities and boosts immunity

Since saliva gets released when you kiss, the plaque on your teeth that leads to cavities is washed away. Saliva helps remove cavity-causing particles that get stuck to your teeth. The release of saliva may also lead to an exchange of good bacteria, exposing you to germs that strengthen your immune system’s ability to fight infections.

 5. Maintain Oral Hygiene

Make sure you and your partner maintain good oral hygiene. It is a sign of mutual respect and love. So stay safe and healthy!
