Zero Deaths in Indian Railways in 2019

Railway Minister Piyush Goyal On Wednesday, December 25, in a tweet informed that for the first time in 166 years zero passenger deaths were reported in the current financial year, 2019-20.Indian Railways said that the financial year 2019-2020 as the safest in 166 years.The department reported only 59 accidents without any deaths. Earlier in April this year, Indian Railways had 2018-2019 was its safest year.

A report by the Financial Express has said that, “The number of accidents, train collisions, track crossing accidents, fire in trains, derailment, etc. has reduced from 1130 in 1980-81 to 59 in 2018-19. This is a 94.8% reduction. The Budget of 2019 gave the railways the highest amount of ?1,58,658 crore. This was more than last year, when they received ?1,48,528 crore. Minister Piyush Goyal has said that his aim is for the Indian Railways to be the safe and the best in the world.
