Young Man Skates from Mumbai to Kerala in 6 Days, Gets Arrested
Subratho Mandal was arrested in Thrissur on 17th December 2024 for performing dangerous roller skating stunts by holding onto moving vehicles, putting himself and others at risk.
The Kerala Police arrested 25-year-old Subratho Mandal on 17th December 2024 for performing dangerous roller skating stunts along the busy roads of Thrissur, including the national highway, putting both his life and the lives of others at risk.
Mandal, a concrete worker by profession, is originally from West Bengal but has been living in Mumbai. Reports suggest that he is also a roller skating enthusiast, and some even claim he works as a barber. His dangerous antics started when he skated all the way from Mumbai to Kerala in the first week of December, covering a distance of around 1,300 kilometres in just six days to visit his brother in Thrissur.
However, instead of skating safely, Mandal chose to hold onto moving vehicles like auto-rickshaws and buses, which allowed him to travel at high speeds along the national highway. This reckless behaviour was caught on camera by passersby and quickly went viral on social media, sparking concern among the public and local authorities.
On 11th December, a video showed Mandal skating dangerously through Swaraj Round, one of the busiest areas in Thrissur. In the footage, he can be seen skating while holding onto an auto-rickshaw, weaving in and out of traffic, and speeding between buses. The video caused a public outcry, leading the Thrissur Police to launch an investigation into the matter.
Although the police had filed a case against Mandal the previous week, they faced difficulty locating him. However, on 17th December, they spotted him skating once again at Swaraj Round and arrested him under the Kerala Police Act for causing danger to the public.
Further adding to the controversy, another video surfaced on 16th December, showing Mandal skating dangerously along the service road of the Puthukkad National Highway. This only increased the criticism of his actions, which were widely condemned by the police and the public.
The Thrissur Police have issued a strong warning, urging people not to engage in such dangerous activities. They stressed that such actions can cause serious accidents and harm, and assured the public that strict measures would be taken to prevent similar incidents in the future.
This incident has raised important concerns about safety on the roads, with authorities urging citizens to respect traffic rules and prioritize their safety and the safety of others.
