Woman In Depression Threw Jewellery Worth Rs 15 Lakhs In Dustbin

In one such shocking incident of depression which has been reported from Tamil Nadu, A woman suffering from depression dumped gold worth 15 Lakhs in a dustbin.

In India depression was not taken very seriously. However now, the views are changing and people are becoming more aware about depression and mental health. Still there is a lack of awareness. The person suffering from depression requires immediate counseling and medical attention. In one such shocking incident of depression which has been reported from Tamil Nadu. 

Let me tell you about it. 

In Tamil Nadu’s Chennai’s Kundrathur Murugan Koil road there is an ATM. On 4th July the security guard at the ATM found a leather bag in the dustbin of the ATM. He opened the suspicious bag and found gold jewellery stuffed inside it. He called up the Kundrathur police station and informed them about it. The bag had 43 pieces of gold ornaments worth around Rs 15 lakh. A police complaint was registered with the help of the manager of the bank the ATM is attached to. During the investigation, the police checked the CCTV camera and found out that a woman left the ATM, dumping the bag in the dustbin. The police also received a complaint from a couple who said that their 35-year-old daughter was missing from the house since 4 am that day. The couple later called the police to inform them that she had returned at around 7 am. The police called the couple to the police station and when they saw the CCTV camera footage, they confirmed that it was their daughter who was seen dumping the bag stuffed with Rs 15 lakh gold jewellery in the bin of an ATM.

The parents of the woman said that they did not know that their daughter had taken away the jewellery until police asked them to check for the valuables inside the cupboard. The couple informed the police that their daughter was mentally unwell, had problem of walking in her sleep and had depression for the past few months. They also said that she is undergoing medical treatment. The police handed over the bag to the couple. Kundrathur inspector Chandru said that had it not been for the timely alert from the security guard of the ATM, it wouldn’t have been possible to trace the jewellery. The police also thanked the security guard and bank manager for their honest gesture. Depression and mental health can be treated. It is important to seek counseling.
