Who Is Pralhad Joshi? PM Modi Announces New High-Powered Task Force
Pralhad Joshi took charge as India's new Education Minister as the Centre moved ahead with major examination reforms.
Following the resignation of Dharmendra Pradhan, senior BJP leader Pralhad Joshi has been appointed as India's new Education Minister. He has been given additional charge of the Education Ministry while continuing to handle his existing ministerial responsibilities.
Pralhad Joshi is a five-time Lok Sabha MP from Dharwad, Karnataka, and has been winning elections since 2004. He has earlier served as the Union Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, Coal and Mines, and is currently the Union Minister for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, and New and Renewable Energy.
His appointment has received mixed reactions. Some people have criticised him because of his long association with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). A recent photo of him wearing the RSS uniform at an event has also gone viral on social media.
After taking charge, Joshi shared a post on X thanking Prime Minister Narendra Modi for trusting him with the responsibility. He said he had started reviewing the work of the ministry and was meeting senior officials to understand the department and its functioning before making any major decisions.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced a high-powered task force on examination reforms. The six-member committee will be chaired by Infosys co-founder Nandan Nilekani.
The task force will study the entire examination system and recommend ways to improve how exams are conducted, managed, and monitored. It will also suggest the use of modern technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI) and digital systems to make examinations more secure and transparent. The Central Government will consider these recommendations while introducing future examination reforms.
