A 6-year-old boy died after his teacher allegedly slapped him for not completing his homework at a private school in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh.
A 6-year-old boy died after his teacher allegedly slapped him for not completing his homework at a private school in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, on 20 August.
The boy, Pranay Teja, was a Class 1 student at Little Garden Private School in the One Town area. He had recently returned from a family trip to Tirupati and Hyderabad and had not completed his homework.
CCTV footage reportedly shows Pranay standing in a queue while the teacher questioned him about his homework. The boy appeared scared and was crying. He can be seen asking the teacher not to hit him. The teacher then allegedly grabbed his shirt and slapped him.
Pranay collapsed shortly after the incident. Other teachers tried to revive him with CPR before taking him to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
Doctors suspect that he may have suffered a cardiac arrest after becoming extremely frightened. However, the exact cause of death will be known only after the post-mortem report.
Pranay’s parents said they were not informed by the school about the incident and learned about it through someone outside the school. They have demanded strict action against the teacher and school management.
The teacher has admitted to slapping Pranay but claimed that she did not hit him hard. Police have started an investigation, and the Visakhapatnam education department has also ordered an inquiry into the incident.
