Virat Kohli and Gautam Gambhir Argue after RCB beat LSG

Virat Kohli and Gautam Gambhir in a heated war of words after RCB beat LSG in low-scoring match.

On 1st May 2023 there was a match between the Lucknow Super Giants and Royal Challengers Bangalore. RCB had scored a mere 126 runs but  bowled well and Lucknow was all out for 108 runs. However RCB’s Virat Kohli and LSG team mentor Gautam Gambhir had a go at each other post match as well. Kohli and Gambhir were seen exchanging words and had to be separated by the players from both sides including RCB captain Faf du Plessis and his LSG captain KL Rahul. While it wasn't clear what the problem was about, Virat Kohli looked agitated.

In the previous match between Lucknow Super Giants and Royal Challengers Bangalore at the Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bangalore on 10th April 2023, after Lucknow won Gautam Gambhir while celebrating the win had put a finger to his lips while looking at the crowd asking them to remain quiet. On the 1st May match, when Lucknow’s Krunal Pandya got out. Kohli blew a flying kiss at the crowd, patted his chest and then recreated Gambhir's celebration with a twist. He put his finger on the lips and then signalled the crowd not to keep quiet and keep cheering. However, it all seemed to be fine at the end as Virat Kohli looked calmer. This is not the first time that Virat Kohli and Gautam Gambhir have faced off in a verbal battle on the field. Back in 2013, Gautam Gambhir was the captain of Kolkata Knight Riders and Virat Kohli was the captain of Royal Challengers Bangalore had made headlines with an argument. But the two had moved on from those heated moments and a few years later, even shared laughs at a training session for India.

Former RCB captain Anil Kumble was disappointed with the behavior on show. “Lot of emotion goes into the game, but you don’t want to be displaying those emotions. Yes, you need to have a conversation but this is something that is unaccepted. No matter what, you have to respect the opposition. You have to respect the game. You may disagree on field, you may have a go at the opposition, you may say things on the field in the heat of the moment, but once the game is over, you just need to shake hands. I don’t know what was said. Some things may have been personal. That’s something you don’t want on the cricket field. Both with Virat, Gautam, and whoever was involved, it wasn’t the nicest thing to see.”
Both Kohli and Gambhir have been fined 100% of their match fees for the incident. Meanwhile, in another match, a fight took place between fans in Delhi during the Delhi-SRH match.  The cause of the fight remains unknown. The intensity of the fight overshadowed the IPL match as the audience began recording the erupting chaos and ended only when two other individuals intervened. Many netizens wondered where Delhi police was during the brawl.
