US: Riots in Los Angeles, Trump Deploys 2000 National Guards

Strict immigration raids in Los Angeles under Trump’s policy have sparked major protests, fear among immigrants, and surprising reactions, including Khaby Lame’s detention.

In the US, a major crackdown on illegal immigrants has caused tension and protests, especially in Los Angeles. President Donald Trump had earlier called these immigrants “illegal aliens” and promised to take strict action. Most of them are from Mexico, and now his plan is in action.

On 6 June 2025, immigration officers (ICE) raided homes and offices in Los Angeles — a city with many Mexican immigrants. Over 100 illegal immigrants were arrested in just one week. One of them was David Huerta, a known labor union leader, whose arrest shocked many.

This strict action has created fear among many immigrant families, even those with children born in America. In reaction, protests broke out in Downtown LA, Compton, and Paramount. Some protests turned violent — roads were blocked, and vehicles were set on fire. Police used rubber bullets and tear gas, injuring civilians and journalists. A video showing a 9News journalist being hit also went viral.

To control the situation, President Trump sent 2,000 National Guard troops and Marines to Los Angeles. But this move was criticized by California Governor Gavin Newsom and LA Mayor Karen Bass. Trump blamed “radical leftists” for the protests and defended the raids.

Why only LA? LA is a ‘Sanctuary City’, where local authorities don’t fully follow the central immigration rules. Many immigrants prefer such cities, which has made LA a hotspot for illegal entry from nearby Mexico.

But not all immigrants are involved in crime. Many live and work peacefully. Sadly, even peaceful legal immigrants, including Indians, are now feeling targeted.

One viral poll on social media showed that some Americans prefer illegal Mexicans over legal Indians. This is worrying for Indians living legally in the US. Even though Indians follow laws and don’t protest violently, they still face racism and remittance taxes like others. This situation might now be an eye-opener for Americans.

Khaby Lame Detained at US Airport

Famous social media influencer Khaby Lame was recently detained at the Las Vegas airport on 6 June 2025. He had entered the US on 30th April but stayed even after his visa expired. Due to Trump’s new immigration rules, he was taken in but later allowed to leave the country voluntarily. Khaby has not spoken publicly about the incident yet.
