UP Govt. Withdraws 3 Lakh+ Cases

The UP Government has withdrawn 3 lakh+ cases against people in the state. These cases had been filed for violation of covid rules.

During covid, various state governments had imposed a number of restrictions, to curb the spread of the virus. These included mandatory wearing of masks, social distancing etc. Since people did not take these rules seriously, the police would arrest them and press charges against them.

Recently in Uttar Pradesh, more than three lakh cases had been filed against those violating covid rules. Recently, the state government has decided to withdraw all of these cases. Cases registered under Disaster Management Act, Epidemic Diseases Act, and other less grave sections have been withdrawn. However, cases against present and former MLA’s, MLC’s and MP’s have not been withdrawn. The Principal Secretary of the UP Government said that withdrawing these cases will save unnecessary court proceedings, and reduce the workload on the already overburdened Courts.
