Residents of a village in Uttar Pradesh's Hardoi district were in for a shock on Wednesday afternoon when they spotted a man calmly walking down the road with the severed head of his 17-year-old daughter. A villager saw the man and immediately called the police. Two officers came to intercept him and started filming the approach on one of their phones. They asked him his name, where he is from and whose head it was.

The man calmly answered all their questions. He said, “ My name is Sarvesh Kumar. I am from Pandetara village. This is my daughter’s head. She was having an affair with a man and I did not agree to it. I caught the two of them in a compromising position and decided to teach them a lesson. So I locked the door of my house when no one was home. Then beheaded her with a sharp tool. Her body is still in the room. I was actually on my way to the police station to turn myself in.”

Meanwhile, a video surfaced on social media, wherein a police constable was seen holding the victim’s chopped head and strolling in the police station. Kapil Deo Singh, who is a police official posted in Hardoi, said, “A case has been registered against the man and the police officials carrying the girl’s  head has been suspended," Latest data released by the National Crime Record Bureau in September last year showed that Uttar Pradesh topped the list of states with the highest number of crimes against women in 2019.
