Two-Day Nationwide Bank Strike

Bank unions call for a nationwide strike.

Government Banks all over the country are going to be closed on the 8th and 9th of January. The All India Bank Employee Association [AIBEA] and the Bank Employee Federation of India [BEFI] are unions for bank employees. They have told bank employees of different banks all over the country to go on strike. Along with the Banking sector, even the employees of insurance companies are going on strike.

This is because the bank employees are protesting the government’s policies.Bank employee unions are also protesting the merger of Bank of Baroda with Dena Bank and Vijaya Bank. This will be the fourth bank strike in the last 30 days. It will affect banking services all over the country.

The employees are demanding a change in salary and cancellation of the bank mergers.The strike notice which was sent to various banks by the employee unions said that, the government has made many changes in the banking and insurance sector. Permanent jobs have been replaced by short term jobs. The bank employees are not happy with this and have decided to go on a strike.
