Tired Mother Kills 2-Month Old Baby
In a tragic & heartbreaking incident, a mother strangled her two-month-old daughter after wrapping her face with adhesive tape and then dumping the body in a dry manhole.
Sandhya Maloo is a 35-year-old housewife and mother of two children. She has studied upto B.Com from Kolkata University. She was arrested in Phoolbagan, Kolkata for strangling her two-month-old daughter after wrapping her face with adhesive tape and then dumping the body in a dry manhole on the ground floor of her building. How shocking! On 26th January 2020 morning, Sandhya’s husband and mother-in-law leave for the temple. At 12:00pm her father leaves the house for some work and the servant leaves as well.
Between 12:30pm - 1:00pm Sandhya strangled the baby, put tape on its face & threw the baby in the manhole. When her father-in-law returned at 1:00pm Sandhya was hysterical and barely conscious.She tells him that the baby was kidnapped by an intruder. After this the family calls the police. The police check CCTV, start investigating and question Sandhya.The police asked Sandhya about how the baby was kidnapped. Sandhya said that a man knocked on the door asking for keys to the terrace. When she opened the door, he pushed her and she fell down and passed out.When the police were questioning her, they felt her statements were very inconsistent. The police said they went through 12 CCTV cameras in the area. They said between 12-1pm they did not see any person leave or enter the house. The police then started strongly questioning her. She then confessed.Sandhya said that she had planned to kill her baby 2 weeks back because she was too tired to take care of the baby.The police have said that they are investigating if she killed the baby because it was a girl, or if she killed the baby for any other reason. The police are also investigating if she was suffering from Postpartum Depression.
Postpartum Depression is a type of Depression that affects both men and women after the birth of a child. Many women get PPT. In PPT a person may become moody, irritated, sad, depressed, sleep deprived, etc. This happens because of many reasons such as hormones, physical changes, genetics, etc.The police say Sandhya could be suffering from PPT. But nothing is sure yet.Her husband is shocked. He said he had gone to the temple to invite priests for the baby’s naming ceremony. The baby was like Lakshmi to him. He is very shocked.
