This Airport Is Bigger Than Mumbai City!

Saudi Arabia’s Dammam City’s King Fahd International Airport (KFIA) is the world’s largest airport with an area of 776 square kilometers making is bigger even than Mumbai City.

Did you know that there's an airport larger than Mumbai itself? It might sound unbelievable, but it's true!

King Fahd International Airport (KFIA) in Dammam, Saudi Arabia, is the world's largest airport, covering a whopping area of 776 square kilometers. In comparison, Mumbai spans 603.4 square kilometers.

This airport is a marvel of human innovation and engineering prowess. It boasts three terminals—one for regular travelers, one for employees, and another exclusively for the Saudi royal family. Owned by the Government Authority of Civil Aviation and operated by Dammam Airport Company, KFIA was originally a US airbase during the Gulf War. However, after the war, it was transformed into a passenger airport and opened its doors to travelers on November 28, 1999.

KFIA serves as a hub connecting Saudi Arabia to key cities across Asia, Europe, Africa, and beyond, accommodating over 10 million travelers annually. Its busiest route is to and from Dubai.

The airport's main terminal complex spans six floors and is equipped with modern amenities such as duty-free shops, restaurants, prayer rooms, spas, and even a creche. It also houses a mosque on the roof of the car park, capable of accommodating up to 2,000 worshippers.

One of the airport's standout features is its control tower, towering at a height of 262 feet—more than double the standard size. This tower oversees flight operations and ground movements with remarkable precision.

KFIA boasts an extensive runway system, with two parallel runways each measuring 13,123 feet long—double the standard length. This allows the airport to accommodate the world's largest commercial aircraft and ensures smooth operations even during peak hours.

In addition to passenger facilities, KFIA also hosts dedicated cargo facilities equipped with warehouses and logistics centers, enhancing its efficiency in handling air freight services.

With its massive size, state-of-the-art facilities, and strategic precision, King Fahd International Airport continues to set the benchmark for excellence in the aviation industry, elevating the standards of air travel worldwide.
