Thane: Cab Driver Brutally Beats Up Elderly After He Asks Him Not To Spit on Road
An elderly Thane resident was seriously injured after allegedly being attacked by a cab driver for objecting to public spitting, triggering widespread outrage and political intervention.
A shocking assault in Thane has sparked outrage across Maharashtra.
On 9th June 2026, near Jupiter Hospital in Thane West, elderly resident Saroj Dastur reportedly objected to a cab driver, Nishant Shukla, spitting on the road. What began as a simple request soon turned violent.
According to reports, an argument broke out, after which Nishant allegedly pushed Saroj and threw a stone at him, leaving him with a fractured leg and serious injuries. The incident was captured on video and quickly went viral.
Public anger grew rapidly, prompting members of both the Shinde and Uddhav Thackeray factions of Shiv Sena to work together to trace the accused. After locating him through an Ola booking, they handed him over to the police.
Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde condemned the attack and directed police to take strict action, including invoking attempt-to-murder charges.
Saroj Dastur is well-known in the area for promoting cleanliness and civic responsibility, making the incident even more disturbing for local residents.
The case has reignited discussions about civic behaviour, public cleanliness, and rising intolerance in society. Meanwhile, fresh controversy erupted after MNS workers in Thane were seen allegedly targeting taxi drivers over Marathi fluency.
Later, MP Dr. Shrikanth Shinde spoke to Saroj Dastur via video call, assuring him of support and promising that such incidents would not be tolerated.
