The J&K police received information that a terrorist was moving in  Pulwama area with explosives-laden  Santro car. On Tuesday 26th May, a white Santro arrived at night in Avigund Rajpora area and was told to stop at the check post.  However, the car did not stop and sped through the barricade. The car was driven by a Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) militant. A few rounds of bullets were fired at it. A little further on the road, the driver left the vehicle and escaped in the darkness. The J&K police and the bomb disposal squad of the Army found explosives in a drum on the back seat.

A team of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) also arrived at the place. The vehicle was kept under watch at night and residents in nearby houses were evacuated. Moving the vehicle had serious risk, so the vehicle was exploded by bomb disposal squads. Kashmir IG Vijay Kumar said, "We received information that a Hizbul Mujahideen militant was driving the car carrying the bombs and was also in touch with the Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM). His name was Adil and he planned to target vehicles of security forces and the vehicle had 40-45 kg of explosives.” The vehicle had a fake number plate. Some reports stated that it was the number of a scooter registered in the Kathua district of Jammu zone.

In the last two months, there has been an increase in the number of terror attacks in J&K. During this time, 30 security officials have died and 38 terrorists were killed including Riyaz Naikoo, J&K’s most wanted terrorist.

According to the reports by the Indian Army, these attacks are because highly trained terrorists from Pakistan are infiltrating India.
