Telangana Youtuber Makes Peacock Curry, Gets Arrested!

Cooking videos are popular on YouTube, with many people watching step-by-step recipes to learn how to make both traditional and new dishes. However, one YouTuber’s cooking video has landed him in serious trouble.
Kodam Pranay Kumar, a YouTuber from Siricilla district in Telangana, runs a YouTube channel called “Sri TV,” where he shares cooking recipes and tutorials. The channel has a large following, with 2.77 lakh subscribers.
On 10th August 2024, Kodam uploaded a video titled “Traditional Peacock Curry” in Telugu, showing him cooking and eating a peacock. This caused a major uproar. As you may know, the peacock is India’s national bird and is protected under the Wildlife Protection Amendment Act of 2022. The law strictly prohibits owning, capturing, hunting, or harming peacocks, and breaking these rules can result in severe penalties.
The video quickly went viral and sparked outrage among wildlife conservationists, animal rights activists, and viewers. People condemned Kodam for promoting illegal wildlife consumption and for disrespecting a national symbol.
The Telangana Forest Department was alerted to the video soon after it was uploaded. They received multiple reports that someone had posted a video showing how to cook peacock curry on YouTube. The department also discovered that Kodam had previously uploaded a video of a wild boar curry recipe on his channel.
A team of forest officials visited Kodam’s house to inspect the area shown in the video. Kodam claimed that he had actually cooked chicken curry and only titled the video “Traditional Peacock Curry” to gain more views.
Despite his explanation, the Forest Department officials detained Kodam and filed a case against him under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) on 11th August 2024. They have also sent Kodam’s blood samples and the curry samples shown in the video for forensic testing.
If the tests confirm that the curry was made from peacock meat, the authorities have promised to take strict action against Kodam and others involved in similar activities. In the meantime, Kodam has deleted the video following severe criticism and the ongoing legal case.
