We are living in 2022 and almost everyone talks about equal rights amongst people from every caste, colour, gender and creed. However, in an extremely shocking & heartbreaking incident of caste discrimination, a water tank in Karnataka's Chamarajanagar district was drained and purified with cow urine after a Dalit woman drank water from it. The Dalit woman had reportedly visited the village to attend a wedding and drank water from the tap. After this locals drained and purified the tank. Following the incident, district in-charge minister V Somanna visited Chamarajanagar on Sunday, 19th of November and said he came to know about the incident from the authorities. He said he informed the social welfare department and the District Commissioner of the incident. He said that he didn't know what exactly happened at the spot but will collect information from the officers and take the next course of action. He also condemned the incident and said that it was unfortunate this kind of incident had happened. The minister also suggested the people of the village live together.
Also, the revenue inspector and village accountant conducted a spot inspection and confirmed the incident. The officials later submitted a report to the tehsildar.The officials told villagers that the water storage tank is a public property and everyone could drink water from it. The tehsildar also took over 20 Dalit youth to all public drinking water taps in the village and made them drink water. The tehsildar also said that the victim woman can not be traced so far, although the authorities are trying to find her. Once she is found, they’ll make her file a complaint and strict action will be taken against anyone who is found guilty.
