Tamil Nadu: 'Thalapathy' Vijay Quits Acting and Joins Politics

Popular Tamil actor superstar Thalapathy Vijay has announced that he is quitting acting and is joining politics by forming his own political party named Tamizhaga Vetri Kazhagam aka TVK.

The much-awaited announcement from One of India’s most loved Tamil actors, Vijay is finally here! Thalapathy Vijay has announced the formation of his political party named Tamizhaga Vetri Kazhagam aka TVK translating to ‘Tamil Nadu’s Victory Party’ in English. He also announced that he will be pursuing politics full-time and will quit cinema after finishing his current commitment. He shared the news on X (Twitter). In his long tweet, Vijay said that though his fan club Vijay Makkal Iyakkam has been doing social work for the past many years, there is a need for political power to do the same in a full-fledged manner.

The tweet read “You all are well aware of the political situation of Tamil Nadu. On one side, we have a dysfunctional administration and corrupt political culture, and on the other, we have divisive politics that aims to divide people along the lines of caste, creed, and religion. Both impede our progress. It is an incontestable truth that people, more so in Tamil Nadu, are longing for a change in a political scenario and want a selfless, honest, secular and talented party to bring about a change.” He also mentioned that it has been his long-term intention and desire to help the people of Tamil Nadu and the Tamilian community who gave him so much love, name, fame, and everything second to his parents. Vijay also announced that he will be contesting in the 2026 state legislative assembly elections and will bring ‘desired political transformation sought by the people of Tamil Nadu’ until then his party members will continue their social work at the grass-root level. According to his tweet, Vijay is waiting for the approval of the election ordinance from the election commission to share his party’s policies, manifestos, strategies, and programs. Thalapathy Vijay is currently acting in Venkat Prabhu’s film ‘Greatest Of All Time. It will become his last film, according to his recent announcement.
