Taj Mahal to Be Renamed as Tejo Mahalaya?

The Taj Mahal is now to be renamed as Tejo Mahalaya under a proposal made by a BJP Councillor to the Agra Municipal Corporation.

There are reports that Taj Mahal, the royal resting place of Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan and his wife Mumtaz Mahal, will be renamed as ‘Tejo Mahalaya’. The Taj Mahal, known as the symbol of love, is now to be renamed as Tejo Mahalaya under a proposal made by a BJP Councillor that will be up for discussion by the Agra Municipal Corporation. The proposal has been prepared by BJP Councillor Shobharam Rathore. It will be tabled before the Agra Municipal Corporation for discussion and further consideration on 7th September.

BJP Councillor Shobharam Rathore has also said that he has "proof" that a lotus urn exists in the Taj Mahal. So far, municipal officials have not commented on the issue. Right-wing members have already urged that the tomb from the Mughal era change its name.  Right-wing organisations have made numerous allegations that the Taj Mahal was earlier a temple to Lord Shiva which was forcefully occupied by the Mughal empire Shah Jahan.

This is also not the first time that demands for renaming the Mughal-era mausoleum have been made. Several right-wing activists earlier based on  Archaeological Survey of India’s (ASI) findings and ancient scriptures, have claimed that the Taj Mahal was actually a Lord Shiva temple. Earlier an Allahabad High Court Bench dismissed a public interest litigation (PIL) seeking direction to “find the truth” behind the 22 locked rooms in the Taj Mahal to resolve the "controversy” around the monument’s origins Recently, a Bharatiya Janata Party MLA from Uttar Pradesh's Ballia, Surendra Singh said that Agra's historical monument, Taj Mahal, will soon be renamed ‘Ram Mahal’ by the Yogi Adityanath government. However, according to some others, The Taj Mahal, which is one of the major historical sites in India, was commissioned by Mughal emperor Shah Jahan in Agra from 1631 to 1653 in memory of his beloved wife.

What do you think about this? Do you think the name of Taj Mahal will be changed to “Tejo Mahalaya”? Do mention your thoughts in the comment section below.
