Students Demand Postponement of JEE-Main & NEET

Despite the spike in COVID-19 cases in India, the Supreme Court has decided to go ahead with the JEE Mains & NEET UG exams.

COVID-19 cases are continuously rising in many states in India. The number of coronavirus infections in India has crossed the 30 lakh and more than  55,000 have died. Despite this the Central Government had decided to conduct the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) (Main) and the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) (UG) exam in India. This decision has not been accepted by the students and their parents all across the country. Students on social media urged the government to postpone the crucial entrance examinations. The Supreme Court had dismissed a petition asking for postponement of the JEE-Main and NEET-UG exams.

The top court said that delaying the examinations would put careers of students in peril. It assured the petitioner that all coronavirus-related precautions shall be taken care of. The Super Court also added, “Are students ready to waste one whole year? Education should be opened up.”

The NEET-UG 2020 is scheduled for 13th September. JEE-Main is scheduled between 1st September and 6th September. Lakhs of students are appearing for these exams. Parents are very upset and as the exams put the students and their families at risk of infection.
