Actor Sonu Sood has been in films for the past two decades but it was his amazing charity work during the coronavirus pandemic that made him a household name. He organised buses, trains and even flights for migrant workers desperate to reach home after being stranded by last year's lockdown. During the second wave in April-May, he organised oxygen for Covid patients and ordered 18 oxygen plants from France, which were sent to various states. Recently Sonu Sood had a meeting with Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, who declared him the brand ambassador for his government's mentorship programme for school students in Delhi. Many even said that Sonu may join the AAP party. Sonu Sood’s company had also made a land deal with a Lucknow-based real estate company. Surprisingly on 15 September afternoon, Sonu Sood's offices in Mumbai and the Lucknow-based real estate company were raided by the Income Tax department.
At least six offices linked to Sood were raided. Sources in the Income Tax department claimed, “After the recent deal, the IT department found that the two companies tried to evade tax payment. This is why their offices were raided.” According to rumours, the BJP got jealous of Sonu’s meeting with Kejriwal and his appointment as brand ambassador. This is why they initiated an IT Raid against Sood. The BJP have rubbished the charges. In connection to the IT raid on Sonu Sood’s offices Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal tweeted that there were millions of hurdles on the path of truth, but truth always prevailed. Aam Aadmi Party MLA Atishi Marlena said that, “The raid by the IT department is because the central government wants to intimidate Sonu Sood. By doing this, the Centre is giving a clear message that it does not want anyone to do good work for the citizens of the country,”This is not the first time Sonu Sood has been raided. He was among Bollywood personalities raided in 2012 over alleged tax evasion.
