Smriti Irani Demands Death Penalty For Rapists
In order to impose strict punishments for those involved in rapes of children and minors, the government on 23rd July proposed a new Bill in the Rajya Sabha regarding the POCSO Act.
The Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act 2012 is Law that deals with the sexual abuse children. For there have been cases of young children and minors becoming victims of rapes, gang rapes, sexual abuses, etc. Even 9-month old babies are getting raped in India. In order to impose strict punishments the government on 23rd July proposed a new Bill in the Rajya Sabha regarding the POCSO Act. The Bill demands Death penalty for sexual crimes against children and Minors.
Smriti Irani is the Union women and child development minister. While introducing the Bill in the Rajya Sabha she said that, she wants to make changes in the law so that anyone who rapes children, especially cases of gang rape, will be given the death penalty. Smriti Irani said that with the growth of technology, many children are becoming victims of child pornography. There have been many cases of child pornography in India.
In the Bill the definition of child pornography has been explained in detail. Child pornography will now include photographs, video, digital or photo generated images. To stop and punish people involved in child pornography they have demanded strict fines and jail time. The Bill proposed that if a person stores child pornography and are first time offenders they will have to pay a fine of Rs 5000.
