Signex Creates an App Called ‘ISL Voter Helpline’

SIGNEX in partnership with the Chief Election Officer of Punjab have created an App called ‘ISL Voter Helpline’. This App has answers to 40 most important questions that every Indian Deaf Voter mus

The Election Commission of India, has created an  App called ‘Voter Helpline’ which is available on Google’s Play Store. This App offers a wide range of information related to voters, voting systems, elections in India, including the latest news on elections. This information is only available in spoken English. Deaf persons who use Indian Sign Language in India, are unable to access such election related news.  

SIGNEX was founded by Sunil Sahasrabushe (Deaf), Sujit Sahasrabudhe (Deaf), Amaresh Gopalkrishnan (CODA).SIGNEX team had the opportunity to meet Special Secretary to Chief Election Officer, Punjab in a programme for persons with disabilities (Divyangjan). In that programme, Deaf Sign Language users appealed for accessible content. The Special Secretary to Chief Election Officer (CEO), Punjab invited the SIGNEX team for further discussion.

SIGNEX in partnership with the CEO of Punjab under the Election Commission of India created an

App called ‘ISL Voter Helpline’. All the information in the App, will be presented in Indian Sign Language.SIGNEX team has handpicked answers to 40 most important questions that every Indian Deaf Voter must know. These 40 questions, have been categorised into 5 different groups.

These groups are Voter, EPIC, Polling Station,EVM/VVPAT and General Information.

This “Voter” category has questions that relate to all types of voters.

For example Questions such as:

  1. How do I find my name in the electoral roll?

  2. Why is my name not in the voter list?

  3. Why to vote?

The second category is “EPIC’ and contains questions related to Voter ID.

For example Questions such as:

  1. How do I change my details in the Voter ID card?

  2. How do I get my Voter ID card?

The “Polling Station” is the third category and has questions relevant to a voter’s polling booth.

It will include questions such as:

  1. Where is my polling station?

  2. What are the facilities provided at the polling station?

  3. What do I need to bring with me to the polling booth?

The “EVM VVPAT” is the fourth category. It has questions regarding the functioning and advantages of VVPAT.

It will include questions such as:

  1. What is VVPAT?

  2. What are EVM?

  3. What are the advantages of EVM?

The last category is “General Information”. It will include questions regarding officials and representatives appointed by Election Commission of India.

It will include questions such as:

  1. Where is my assembly constituency?

  2. How do I get my voter slip?

  3. Who is my chief electoral officer?

The aim of the App is empower Deaf citizen of India, by providing accessible information related to the upcoming Lok Sabha Elections. We urge everyone to download this App increase their knowledge. Indian Deaf Voters must learn as much as they can about the elections, so that they can cast votes for the stability of the government and rapid development of India.
