Serbian Dancing Lady: Real or Fake?

Viral video of the Serbian Dancing Lady, "The Dancing Shadow," sparks fear and curiosity, with her true identity remaining a mystery.

Although there are several dancing videos on TikTok and Instagram, the recent one is very different. A video of a Serbia dancing lady has gone viral on social media. The video is scaring many. Nonetheless, some viewers appear determined to figure out who or what this is, while others are simply scared. The mystery of the Serbian dancing lady first happened on 26th September 1998. It is reported that the video is from Belgrade, Serbia. However, the video came to light in 2019, when one of the users uploaded it on TikTok and Serbia Today published an article about it. Now once again the creepy video has become viral where a woman is dancing in the streets of Serbia with movements similar to Serbian folklore. The woman allegedly carries a knife that she uses to threaten anyone who passes by. Some people believe that the Serbian Dancing Lady might be related to the urban legend of a Serbian woman named Mira. According to the legend, the woman at the time ran out in front of vehicles and people while wielding a knife and yelling threats. She appeared to be unstable. Another legend is that the Serbian Dancing Lady is also known as "The Dancing Shadow." According to this story, a woman falls in love with a man from a different village, but her family disapproves of the match. After she dies, her spirit is said to roam the countryside at night, dancing and singing sadly. It is believed that if someone sees her dancing shadow, they will soon die or suffer misfortune. The legend has been passed down through generations and has been the subject of many music, literature, and films in Serbia. A person called Niko wrote in his blog, “I was walking with my mother when we saw a distant figure dancing weirdly. When the lady noticed us she charged us, shouting profanities (bad words). The lady shouted that his mother’s life was needed for an ancient ritual to bring back the king of Serbia. When Niko told his friend Solomon about it, he was curious.  One night, Solomon stepped out of his hotel in Serbia, carrying his camera with him. Soon he encountered the Serbian lady dancing. Suddenly, when the lady noticed his presence, she let out a shrill cry shouting “Your mother’s soul is mine”. Solomon reached back to the safety of his room. According to one medical student who witnessed the dancing lady outside a hospital, she said, the lady might attack a youngster or pregnant lady who wouldn't be able to escape quickly. Similarly, several people also shared their experience of witnessing the Serbian Dancing Lady and being chased by her. However, it is difficult to verify these blogs as users can post anything independently. While some reports say that police have arrested the woman in the video for vile behaviour, most claim that the creepy lady remains elusive despite police searches. Although the urban legend says that the Serbian Dancing Lady kills or attacks anyone who stops her dance, there are no reports of any deaths surrounding it. Serbian authorities have also been closely monitoring the situation. However, the mythical figure scares many people to date. As of now, not much is known about the dancing woman and that nobody has seen her face. What would you do or how would you feel if you see someone like this on the street?
