Saudi Arabia, known for its strict social codes rooted in the Holy Quran, has taken a significant step towards modernization by allowing women to participate in the prestigious Miss Universe pageant.

Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman has spearheaded efforts to relax social restrictions in recent years, aiming to boost tourism and business opportunities in the country. This includes initiatives such as permitting the opening of Saudi's first liquor shop in Riyadh.

In a historic move, Saudi Arabia will now officially support its women to compete in the Miss Universe pageant, marking the first time a contestant from the country will participate since the pageant's inception in 1952.

The inaugural Miss Universe contestant from Saudi Arabia is 27-year-old model and social media influencer, Rumy Al-Qahtani, born and raised in Riyadh. With over 1 million Instagram followers and a track record of participating in global pageants, Rumy brings a wealth of experience to the competition.

Rumy's achievements include winning titles such as Miss Saudi Arabia, Miss Middle East (Saudi Arabia), and Miss Arab World Peace 2021. She recently represented Saudi Arabia in the Miss and Mrs Global Asian pageant in Malaysia.

Announcing the news on her Instagram handle on 25th March 2024, Rumy expressed her honor at being selected as Saudi Arabia's representative in the Miss Universe 2024 competition. She shared a glamorous picture donning a shimmering evening gown adorned with the Miss Universe contestant sash labeled 'Miss Universe - Saudi Arabia' while standing proudly next to the Saudi Arabian flag.

With Rumy's participation marking a historic moment for Saudi women, the question arises: Will she make history once again by winning the Miss Universe 2024 crown in Mexico? The anticipation is high as the world eagerly awaits the outcome of this groundbreaking moment.
