Rs 1 Cr Fine Collected in Delhi for Not Wearing Masks

Data compiled from last week shows that from 20th September to 27th September the law enforcement agencies in Delhi collected Rs. 1, 19, 57,900 in fines from people for not wearing masks.

The government is repeatedly stressing on the importance of wearing masks. But it seems like the residents of Delhi do not care. In mid-June a fine of Rs. 500 for violators was fixed. Currently in Delhi there are 200 enforcement teams. Additional DM (South) Arun Gupta said that because of the careless attitude of the people there is a rise in Delhi's infections. Delhi has 273,098 cases and 5,272 deaths. Data compiled from last week shows that from 20th September to 27th September the enforcement agencies collected Rs. 1, 19, 57,900 in fine. In comparison to this, 25,000 were fined between June and September.

In recent weeks the government has strictly started implementing the fines for not wearing masks in public. Officials sometimes dressed in civilian clothes, check through cars in various areas of Delhi. Those not found covering their faces with masks or cloth are asked to park their vehicles and pay a fine. The decision to implement laws strictly was taken at a meeting of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and L-G Anil Baijal on 18th September. The decision to be stricter was taken as despite CM's requests and the government's caller tunes, people were not being careful about the precautions. Similarly in areas like Chandni Chowk, Sadar Bazar, and Kashmere Gate thousands were found without masks.
