RRR Song Naatu Naatu and The Elephant Whisperers Win Oscars

In a proud moment, India created history at the 95th Academy Awards by winning 2 Oscar Awards. See the video for details.

The 95th Oscar Awards were held in Los Angeles on 12th March 2023 , US time which meant 13th March 2023 at around 5 am India time. Indians had a lot to look forward to this year with three nominations in major categories. 

  1. The much-celebrated energy-packed track 'Naatu Naatu' from the film RRR made it to the nominations this year in the 'Original Song' category.  It is Composed by MM Keeravani, with lyrics by Chandrabose. 

  2. ‘The Elephant Whisperers' has been nominated in the 'Documentary Short Film’ Category. The film's plot revolves around a family who adopts two orphaned baby elephants in Tamil Nadu's forests. It is produced by Achin Jain and Guneet Monga. 

  3. 'All That Breathes' has been nominated in the 'Documentary Feature Film'. The film revolves around the lives of siblings who work out of their poor basement to rescue and treat injured birds. 

The song Naatu Naatu was performed live during the Oscar ceremony by singers Rahul Sipligunj and Kaala Bhairava, and danced by Lauren Gottlieb. Deepika Padukone, who attended as a presenter, introduced the performance.

In a proud moment, India created history at the 95th Academy Awards. ‘The Elephant Whisperers’ won Best Documentary Short Film category and the song ‘Naatu Nattu' won in the Best Original song category.  The Elephant Whisperers is the first Indian production to win in the Best Documentary Short Film category. Naatu Naatu is the first Indian song to have won an Oscar. Meanwhile  Everything Everywhere All at Once won Best Picture, Best Director and Best Actress and many other awards. The Best Actor award was won by Brendan Fraser for the movie, The Whale 

Meanwhile, Priyanka Chopra hosted a pre-Oscar party to celebrate South Asian excellence. From Preity Zinta to Malala Yousafzai, stars came together to celebrate this year's nominees.  Jacqueline Fernandez also attended the pre-Oscar event. She was a part of a song which was nominated in the Best Original Song against Naatu Naatu.
