Ranveer Singh's Bold Care Ad Angers People

Ranveer Singh's new ad featuring himself and Johnny Sins for Bold Care is facing backlash for its disrespectful portrayal of Indian TV serials.

Known for his bold acting skills and funny antics, Bollywood Superstar Ranveer Singh has once again sweeped off his audience and fans with a controversial advertisement. The advertisement is for Bold Care, a men's sexual wellness brand co-founded by Ranveer Singh and was released on 13th February 2024. The advertisement stars Ranveer in the lead along with famous American pornstar Johnny Sins. The ad is a rip-off of a typical Indian saas-bahu serial with their exaggerated scenes and dramatic background music guaranteed to leave the viewers laughing. It shows Ranveer and Johnny as brothers dressed in Indian traditional wear who are amid some good old family-style "kalesh." The ad starts with the actor playing Johnny's wife leaving her sasural and Ranveer trying to persuade her to stay back. When Ranveer asks "Kya tum yahan pe khush nahi ho?" Johnny's wife replies "Jeth ji, inki daali pe kabhi phool nahi khilta," implying Johnny’s problems in the conjugal bed. Some dramatic dialogues, a ton of euphemisms, typical camera panning and a ridiculous stunt later, Johnny’s wife is persuaded into staying back with the help of a capsule (that enhances men's sexual health). The ad ends on a note from Bold Care, highlighting the rampant issue of sexual health problems among men. The advertisement has gone viral on social media. Gen Z is loving the concept and prominent Bollywood personalities have commented positively. One of the comments read “BRO WHAT IN THE WORLD JOHNNY SINS DOING IN INDIAN COMMERCIAL WITH RANVEER SINGH (crying emojis).” Indian musical composer & youtuber wrote "I really got invested in the story." Ranveer’s best friend & Bollywood actor Arjun Kapoor wrote "Baba u are bold and beautiful for doing this…" Priyanka Chopra, Vikrant Massey and more also dropped encouraging comments on Ranveer’s advertisement. Many well-known TV actors including Rashmi Desai, Sayantani Ghosh and Sudhanshu Pandey have heavily criticized the ad. Naagin actress Sayantani Ghosh demanded more respect for the TV industry & said “Ranveer Singh's film 'Circus' failed. Perhaps that's why they had to think of making a TV serial to sell their product. The truth is that the power of TV is so strong that it can reach so many people... and now the time has come that the TV industry gets respect.” Anupamaa fame Sudhanshu Pandey called the ad a complete nonsense & an irresponsible approach as the Indian television industry has been presented in a very bad light. He also questioned the casting of an American pornstar. Uttaran Actress Rashami Desai also criticized the ad. She reminded people that while she may have started her career with regional films, she gained success & fame through TV serials. She said that the ad felt insulting and TV actors are always considered inferior. Regardless of the opinions, the commercial has succeeded in sparking conversations and debates about men's sexual health, breaking stereotypes and taboos along the way.
