Punjab: Shocking Case of Teen Girl Found Dead at Neighbour’s House

A 13-year-old girl was murdered after a failed rape attempt. The incident sparked outrage, with locals demanding strict action against both the accused and negligent police.

A shocking crime has shaken Jalandhar, Punjab, where a 13-year-old girl was brutally murdered by her 45-year-old neighbour, Rimpy Singh alias Happy, after a failed rape attempt.

On the evening of November 23rd, the girl left home around 4:00 pm to visit her friend next door. CCTV footage later showed her entering the accused’s house at 4:05 pm, but she never came out. With the friend’s family away in Ludhiana, the accused allegedly tried to rape her and strangled her with a wire when she resisted. He then hid her body in the bathroom.

By 4:30 pm, her family began searching. Police were called by 6:00 pm, but ASI Mangtaram claimed nothing suspicious during his inspection. Hours later, locals reviewed CCTV footage and confronted the accused, who gave evasive answers. At 8:00 pm, enraged residents forced entry and discovered the girl’s body.

The funeral was held amid heavy crowds filled with anger. Her brother and uncle lit the pyre, while her grieving mother adorned her daughter with bangles, henna, and bridal attire, saying she would not let her go without fulfilling her dreams.

The accused was caught and beaten by locals before police intervened. Furious crowds clashed with police, pelting stones and attempting to burn him alive. Senior officials arrived by 11:00 pm to disperse the mob and rescue the accused, who was hospitalized under heavy security.

A case has been registered under BNS sections 103 (murder), 65(1) (rape), and the POCSO Act. Police suspended ASI Mangtaram for negligence and promised a full investigation.
