President Confers Padma Shri to 56 Personalities

Every year the Indian government honours people for their contribution to the country in different fields. The government recognises such personalities by bestowing upon them the Bharat Ratna, Padma Vibhushan,Padma Bhushan and the Padma Shri.

The Bharat Ratna is the highest award given by the Indian Government. Every Year only 3 people are given this award. On 25th January the government announced the recipients of the Bharat Ratna. Former President Pranab Mukherjee, music legend Bhupen Hazarika, and social activist Nanaji Deshmukh will be given the award.

On 11th March 2019, Ram Nath Kovind the President of India at the Rashtrapati Bhavan conferred the Padma Shri award to 56 personalities. Wrestler Bajrang Punia, Percussionist Anandan Sivamani, Chess superstar Harika Dronavalli and Dancer Prabhu Deva were some of the people who received the prestigious award. Famous journalist Kuldeep Nayar was awarded the Padma Bhushan posthumously. His wife received the award. South Superstar Mohanlal who has acted in more than 300 movies, was also awarded the Padma Bhushan. He said he was very honoured to receive the award.
