Police Officer Sachin Vaze Arrested in Ambani Threat Case

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has arrested Maharashtra Assistant Police Inspector Sachin Vaze for his alleged role in placing an explosives-laden vehicle near the residence of Reliance Indus

A few weeks back, a scorpio car filled with explosives was found near Mukesh Ambani’s home in Antilia, Mumbai. In the car a threatening note against Mukesh and his family was also found. The car belonged to a man called Hiren Mansukh, who had reported the car to be stolen. However, Hiren was then found dead in the Kalwa creek. Now there is a new twist in the case. Mumbai cop Sachin Vaze has been arrested by the National Investigation Agency's (NIA). According to the NIA he was involved in placing the explosives-laden vehicle near billionaire businessman Mukesh Ambani's residence Antilia and the NIA has also been accused of murdering Mansukh Hiren. Vaze is an Assistant Police Inspector of the Mumbai Police. He was an “encounter specialist”.

Vaze, who was in the Crime Intelligence Unit (CIU). He was the one leading the investigation about the car filled with explosives near Antilia. While there was no breakthrough in the case, surprising allegations made by former chief minister Devendra Fadnavis introduced a fresh twist. In the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly Fadnavis alleged that Vaze had been in frequent touch with Mansukh Hiren. He even showed call records to prove the same. Fadnavis also said that Vaze was the first person to reach the spot where the stolen Scorpio vehicle was parked outside the Ambani residence. Vaze had denied he had reached the spot first. Speaking to the media later, Fadnavis said, “It could be a coincidence, but the sheer number of coincidences with regard to Vaze in this case is more than in a Bollywood film.” On the same day as Fadnavis made these allegations, Hiren’s body was found floating in Kalwa creek. Hiren’s wife has said that Vaze was behind Hiren’s murder. She also alleged that the Scorpio had been with Vaze for several months until February 5 this year.
After Fadnavis said all this, people began saying that the Shiv Sena-led state government, and Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, were shielding Vaze. Because of this the government removed him from the case and then transferred him out of CIU. Maharashtra ATS had called him for questioning. Then  the NIA questioned Vaze for nearly 12 hours on Saturday 13th March after which he was arrested on the same day. People suspect there is more to the story because of Vaze’s past.  Let me tell you about it. On 2 Dec 2002, there was a blast in Ghatkopar, Mumbai. Later in the month, the police arrested Khwaja Yunus saying he was responsible for the blast. 4 policemen worked on the case and Vaze was one of them. Later the 4 policemen said Yunus tried to escape while they were taking him to Aurangabad on January 6-7 2003. After investigation, the Bombay High Court said that the 4 men purposely killed Yunus and supensed the police official. The trial of the four policemen is pending as the judge was transferred in 2018. Vaze then joined the Shiv Sena and worked closely for them. For a total of 16 years, Vaze was not working with the police.  But during the lockdown, he was hired by the police as there was a shortage of staff. Soon after Vaze began investigating several high profile cases.
