PM Modi Receives Award From Bill Gates

Billionaire Bill Gates bestowed on PM Modi the Goalkeeper Award for his contributions to the Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan in India.

Billionaire Bill Gates and his wife Melinda Gates founded the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. The foundation works to improve people's lives in different countries. It is one of the richest foundations in the world. The Foundation has an award called the [Box 04 Goalkeeper Award. This award is given to leaders who work hard to remove poverty, inequality and help in development. This award is given to leaders who make an impact on the world. On 25th September 2019, Bill Gates award PM Modi the Goalkeeper Award in New York, USA. 

He was given the award because PM Modi had launched the [Box 06 Swachh Bharat Abhiyan in 2nd October 2014. Since then this programme has shown many positive results. Indian people became inspired by Modi and worked hard to keep India clean. He was given the award for the change he brought about in India. 

PM Modi said that this award is for Indians. He said it is because of Indian people that the Swacch Bharat Abhiyaan became so successful. He said more than 11 crore toilets were constructed in the last five years.

This helps women a lot as they faced many problems. PM Modi said women would wait for the evening to go out to defecate. Many girls had to drop out of school due to the lack of a toilet in schools.

He said that the Indian government’s aim is to make the lives of women better. He said that the government's next aim is to stop using plastic. Modi said that he is very honoured to receive the award on Mahatma Gandhi’s 150th Birthday.
