PM Modi Congratulates India on 7.8% Growth Rate
India recorded strong 7.8% GDP growth in the first quarter of FY 2026–27, with PM Modi crediting Indians’ hard work and urging people to support the economy.
India has recorded 7.8% GDP growth in the first quarter of financial year 2026–27, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, currently in Kyrgyzstan, has welcomed the strong economic performance.
In a video shared on social media this morning, PM Modi congratulated Indians, crediting the country’s growth to their hard work, determination and collective strength.
He said India’s economy is growing rapidly despite global uncertainty, including wars, disrupted supply chains and the economic instability that followed the COVID-19 pandemic.
PM Modi also urged Indians to support the economy by choosing “Wed in India” instead of holding destination weddings abroad. He also encouraged people to avoid unnecessary foreign tourism and gold purchases.
Taking a political swipe at the opposition, he said that while some people are spreading “jhooth ki goonj” (an echo of lies), India continues to move forward.
According to official figures, India’s 7.8% growth was higher than the growth recorded by several major economies during the same period:
Indonesia – 5.29%
China – 4.3%
US – 2.1%
UK – 2.1%
The strong numbers are significant because sustained growth during global crises can strengthen investor confidence and make an economy more resilient to shocks.
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman also welcomed the figures, saying effective economic management helped India achieve this performance.
With global uncertainty continuing, the big question now is: Can India maintain this strong growth in the coming quarters?
