Neeraj Chopra Wins Gold at World Athletics Championships

The World Athletics Championships (WAC) until 2019 were known as the IAAF World Championships in Athletics. Like the Olympics, they are the highest level championships. The World Athletics Championships were started in 1976. India has participated in the World Athletics Championships since 1983. World Athletics Championships 2023 were held from 19 August 2023 to 27 August 2023 at Budapest, Hungary. Till date (2023) India had won only 2 medals at the World Athletics Championships -  a Bronze medal won by Anju Bobby George in 2003 in the Women's long jump and Neeraj Chopra silver medal in the javelin throw in 2022. Now once again making India proud, Neeraj Chopra won the Gold medal in Javelin Throw.  Chopra’s best throw of 88.17m. This is India’s 3rd medal in the World Athletics Championships but 1st Gold. Neeraj's father, Satish Kumar, expressed immense pride in his son's achievement, stating, "This is a very proud moment for our country as we got a gold medal in the World Championship as well. We will celebrate once Neeraj comes back to India." Prime Minister Modi took to social media to convey his congratulations to Neeraj. He praised Neeraj's excellence, dedication. Neeraj Chopra's achievements have been impressive. He already holds several medals including an Olympic gold, Asian Games gold medal, a Commonwealth Games gold etc. Meanwhile the Indian men's 4x400m relay team had an amazing performance at the World Athletics Championships. For the first time ever in history, they reached the finals. However, in the finals they did not win a medal as they came 5th. Once again Chopra has made India proud. Congratulations to him!
