National Awards for the Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities 2025

Govt of India gives National Awards on 3rd Dec to honour persons with disabilities and their supporters.

Every year, the Government of India gives National Awards for the Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities to celebrate the achievements of persons with disabilities (PwDs), and to recognise the work of individuals and organisations that support them.

These awards are given in line with the spirit of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (RPwD) Act, 2016, to promote dignity, inclusion, and equal opportunities for PwDs across India.

The awards are presented by the President of India and are organised by the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, under the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment. They are given every year on 3rd December, which is also the International Day of Persons with Disabilities.

A Prestigious Honour Since 1969

The National Awards were first started in 1969. Over time, they have become one of the most respected honours in the field of disability rights in India.

This year, a total of 34 awards will be given in different categories such as:

- Individual excellence

- Role model

- Outstanding institutions

- Outstanding employers, and more.

A total cash prize of ?33 lakhs is set aside for these awards. (Note: Not all categories carry cash awards. Some awardees receive medals, shields or certificates, and some may get cash prizes ranging from ?1 lakh to ?2 lakh along with certificates.)

How to Apply

Applications can be submitted only through the Rashtriya Puraskar Portal: www.awards.gov.in
Physical forms or emails will not be accepted.

Applicants must upload all required details and documents of their achievements on the portal, as per the format given there.

Selection Process

There is a structured selection process involving:

- Screening Committees: They shortlist names as per fixed criteria.

- National Selection Committee: Final awardees are chosen based on the recommendations of Screening Committees.

These committees include government officials, experts, and members of NGOs to ensure fairness and transparency in the selection.

Note: If someone has already received the award earlier, they can apply again only after 5 years.

Important Dates

- Portal Opens: 15th May

- Last Date to Apply: 15th July

- Confirmation to Awardees: 31st October

- Award Ceremony: 3rd December
