Nargis Fakhri is an American actress who primarily works in Bollywood movies. She is known for her roles in Rockstar, Madras Cafe, Main Tera Hero, Housefull 3, etc.
Nargis's sister Aliya Fakhri (43) has been arrested in the murder case of her (Aliya’s) ex-boyfriend Edward Jacobs (35) and his female friend Anastasia Ettienne (33) in Queens, New York.
Edward was a plumber and mostly worked on projects to convert garages into apartments.
According to the reports, On 2nd November 2024, Aliya arrived early morning at the 2-storey garage, where Edward worked & lived upstairs and yelled "You're all going to die today." One of Edward’s neighbours came out hearing her voice and was shocked to see the building on fire.
In his testimony, one witness who tried rescuing Anastasia told the court that Aliya had blocked the staircase by burning the couch on it.
While Edward was sleeping during the incident, Anastasia rushed down hearing the alerting shouts of the people. She jumped over the big burning sofa to escape but soon realised that Edward was still inside. She jumped over the burning sofa again & rushed back to save him.
However, by then it was too late, Edward & Anastasia got trapped inside and died from smoke inhalation and thermal injuries.
Edward’s mother Janet told the court that Edward had broken up with Aliya about a year ago but she wasn't accepting the rejection. She said that Edward kept telling Aliya, “Yo, I’m done with you. Get away from me” but Aliya didn’t listen.
She called their relationship abusive and also claimed that Aliya had previously threatened to burn Edward's house down.
On the other hand, Aliya & Nargis’ mother Marie Fakhri does not believe any of the accusations made against Aliya. She claimed Aliya to be a person who cared for and helped everyone.
She also revealed that Aliya had become addicted to painkillers after a dental mishap, which may have led to her increased aggression but maintained that she couldn’t murder anyone.
Aliya has been accused & charged with 1st-degree murder & arson (act of deliberately setting a deadly fire). If found guilty, she will be sentenced to life imprisonment.
Aliya has pleaded not guilty.
The court has denied Aliya bail & ordered her to remain in police custody at New York City’s largest jail - Rikers Island till the verdict. The next hearing of the case is scheduled for 9th December 2024.
