Mumbai BEST Bus Accident Kills 28-year-old Swiggy Agent
A week after the Malad crash, a BEST electric bus accident in Dadar killed a 28-year-old delivery executive and reignited concerns over the safety of electric buses in Mumbai.
Less than a week after a fatal BEST bus crash in Malad, Mumbai witnessed another tragic accident on 8 June near Plaza Cinema in Dadar.
An electric BEST bus allegedly lost control and crashed into a crane and multiple vehicles, killing 28-year-old Swiggy delivery executive Niyaz Ahmad and injuring six others, including fellow delivery worker Rishabh Gupta.
The driver claimed the bus suddenly accelerated and became uncontrollable, while a BEST official involved in rescue efforts suggested that the instant acceleration of electric buses may have contributed to the crash.
Police have registered a case against the driver, and BEST has formed a four-member committee to investigate the incident.
The tragedy is particularly heartbreaking for Niyaz's family. He was set to travel to Uttar Pradesh on 17 June to meet the family of a prospective bride, as discussions regarding his marriage were underway.
