MS Dhoni To Play in IPL 2025, Confirms CSK CEO

MS Dhoni hints at playing IPL 2025 and becomes the brand ambassador for Jharkhand state elections.

Legendary cricketer Mahendra Singh Dhoni has hinted that he might play in the next IPL season, IPL 2025. This comes amid speculation that he might fully retire from cricket soon. During a promotional event for the Rigi app, Dhoni shared, “I just want to enjoy the last few years of cricket I can still play. Playing professionally makes it tough to simply enjoy the game, and that’s what I want to do now."

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) is expected to retain Dhoni under a new IPL rule for capped and uncapped players. According to this rule, players who haven’t played for India or held a BCCI contract in the last five years are considered “uncapped” and can be retained for a maximum of ?4 crores. Since Dhoni last played for India five years ago, CSK plans to retain him as an “uncapped” player, saving funds for the team. CSK’s CEO Kasi Viswanathan expressed his excitement, saying, “If he’s ready, we are happy.”

By 31st October 2024, Dhoni must call CSK owner N Srinivasan to confirm his decision, as all IPL teams need to submit their player lists to BCCI by this date.

In other news, Dhoni has also been named as the brand ambassador for the upcoming Jharkhand state assembly elections. The Jharkhand State Election Commission will use his image to encourage people to vote. The elections will be held from 13th to 20th November 2024, with the results announced on 23rd November.

Fans are thrilled that Dhoni may play again in IPL and support an important cause in his home state.
