Modi Launches Two New Metro Projects in Mumbai

Prime Minister Narendra Modi launches Infrastructure and housing projects in Mumbai.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi was in Mumbai on 18 December to launch two new metro projects in the city.

These Metro projects will run between Thane-Bhiwandi-Kalyan and Dahisar-Mira Road-Bhayandar.

The total cost of both the metro projects is more than Rs.33,000 Cr.

The Thane-Kalyan project is expected to be completed by 2021 and the Dahisar-Bhayandar project is expected to be completed by 2022. These metro trains will carry 2.29 lakh commuters daily.  

PM Modi said that, in the next few years more metros will be added and  by 2024 Mumbai will have a 275 km long metro line.

The PM also launched the third metro project in Pune, between Hinjewadi and Shivaji Nagar.

While in Mumbai, Modi launched CIDCO’s housing project for 90,000 poor and middle class people.

This is a housing scheme which will offer affordable homes under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana.
