Miscreants Help Wanted Criminal Escape From Police Jeep

Eight people allegedly surrounded a police jeep and forcibly took away a wanted history-sheeter while he was being taken to Naubasta Police Station in Kanpur.

Manoj Singh (33), has a long criminal history. He was wanted in a case of murder. On 2nd June, police got a tip off that Manoj Singh had gone to a private guest house situated in the  Naubasta area in Kanpur to attend a birthday party of a city office-bearer belonging to the ruling BJP. Kanpur's Additional Commissioner of Police Akash Kulhari said "On a tip-off, the Naubasta police team reached the spot and arrested Singh and immediately took him to a police jeep. Later a group of people, who were Manoj’s aides, followed the police team. Eight people allegedly surrounded a police jeep, created ruckus and forcibly took away Singh.” Another police official said that a massive checking drive was launched in the area to arrest Singh who had run away.

The police have registered an FIR against the criminal and his aides who assisted him to escape. The identities of all eight miscreants have been established with the help of video footage. Police teams have been formed to arrest the eight miscreants. There were rumors that the people who helped the accused escape are BJP workers, another senior official said.
