Mathura Temple: People Drink AC Water Thinking It To Be Holy
Devotees at Mathura's Banke Bihari Temple mistakenly drank AC condensation, thinking it was holy ‘Charan Amrit’ water from Lord Krishna’s feet.
Mathura's famous Banke Bihari Temple, a well-known place of worship dedicated to Lord Krishna, recently became the center of a strange incident. In a video that has now gone viral, devotees are seen collecting and drinking water dripping from an elephant statue, believing it to be ‘Charan Amrit’ – holy water from Lord Krishna's feet. Many were eagerly cupping their hands or using cups to catch each drop, convinced it was sacred.
However, it was later revealed that this water was not from the deity’s feet but was actually condensation from an air conditioning unit above. The video, shared on social media platform X, was captioned, “Serious education is needed. People are drinking AC water, thinking it is 'Charanamrit' from the feet of God!!”
In the video, a visitor can be heard telling the devotees, “Didi, this is AC water, not holy water from the feet of Thakur Ji. The temple priests have confirmed this.” Despite his clarification, many devotees continued to collect and drink the water, disregarding his warning.
Ashish Goswami, a caretaker at the temple, stated that people have spread rumors that the water dripping from the elephant statue is ‘Charan Amrit.’ He urged devotees to understand that this water is simply from the AC in the sanctum and not holy at all. “Getting real Charan Amrit is not easy and is only available inside the temple,” he explained.
Yet, several devotees continued to believe otherwise. One devotee even said, “This is holy water. Because of our good deeds, we are blessed with this water.”
The viral video, which has gained over 3.8 million views, sparked widespread discussions. Some online users expressed disbelief, with one commenting, “Stupidity is becoming worse by the day.” Others remarked that many people blindly follow faith without logic or science. Some suggested that the temple trust should place a notice or board to prevent such misunderstandings.
Dr. Cyriac Abby Philips, a medical expert known as “The Liver Doctor” on social media, responded to the video, warning against drinking AC water. He emphasized that AC condensation often contains high levels of bacteria and can be harmful to health.
This unusual incident highlights the importance of awareness and education on health and faith-related matters.
