A newly married man died after a home theatre music system gifted by his wife’s ex boyfriend exploded.

In Chhattisgarh's Kabirdham district Hemendra Merawi got married on 1st April 2023. On 3rd April 2023, the family was opening the gifts received during the wedding.  Hemendra and his brother Rajkumar died after a home theatre music system exploded. Four others were seriously injured in the blast. As soon as Hemendra  switched on the home theatre system, there was a huge explosion, which led to Merawi's death on the spot. His brother, Rajkumar was severely injured and succumbed during treatment. 4 others including a one and half year old baby were injured and taken to the hospital. The impact of the explosion led to the collapse of the walls and roof of the room where the home theatre system was kept.  As soon as the blast occurred, the police were called. The police did a spot inspection and found that an electronic gadget had exploded but there was a smell of gunpowder in the air which made them curious. During a police investigation, it was found that the blast took place because someone had planted explosives inside the home theatre system.

Later, when the cops started investigating the list of gifts received during the marriage, they discovered that the music system was a gift from the bride's ex-lover, Sarju (33). Police said the accused had planted the device with two-kilogrammes of explosives. According to the police Sarju collected ammonium nitrate from his workplace and it with one kilogram of gunpowder from firecrackers and petrol to make the bomb and planted it in the music system. Sarju has been arrested. During interrogation, the accused who also is married, accepted that he was angry with his ex-girlfriend for getting married, so he gifted her the home theatre system with explosives planted inside as revenge.
