Man Climbs Two Floors to Throw Acid on Three Girls

In the early hours of Tuesday three Dalit sisters aged 8, 12 and 17 years were attacked with acid while they were sleeping on the second floor in their house in Uttar Pradesh’s Gonda district.

At around 2.30 am on intervening night of Monday and Tuesday (12th and 13th october) an incident took place in Paska village of Gonda District, Uttar Pradesh. Three Dalit sisters aged 8, 12 and 17 years were sleeping on the second floor of their house when they were  attacked with inflammable liquid. The police said that in the initial probe it was found that the girls were sleeping in the room on the second floor of the house and the attacker climbed up to the second floor to throw acid from the open window. The police officials said that the preliminary enquiry suggested the inflammable liquid is suspected to be acid. The eldest sister suffered major injuries on face and chest and the two other sisters have minor injuries on hands. All three have been admitted to the Gonda district hospital where they are being treated. Investigation in the case is going on.

The officials confirmed the three sisters are from Dhobi community and fall under the scheduled caste (SC) category. The police added that the sequence of events suggested that the attacker was aware about the family and knew that the girl sleeps in a room on the second floor. In the police investigation it was found that a person named Ashish aka Chotu is the accused.

The Police launched a search for the accused. Late evening they saw him arriving on a motorcycle. His bike skid when he saw the police jeep and he opened fire at police, and police personnel retaliated in self-defence during which the accused got injured. He has been arrested and sent to a hospital for treatment. Police added that further investigation is going on. UP CM Yogi Adityanath had instructed the Gonda police to take strict action against the culprit and immediately give financial aid to the girls. Acid attacks are registered under Section 326 A of the Indian Penal Code, with a minimum punishment of 10-year imprisonment.
