Maharashtra Bandh & Ashish Mishra Arrested by UP Police

Union Minister Ajay Mishra's son Ashish, accused of running over farmers in Uttar Pradesh, was arrested after being questioned for over 12 hours in Lakhimpur Kheri.

Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Ajay Mishra's son Ashish Mishra has been accused by farmers of running over famers who had gathered for a peaceful black flag protest in Lakhimpur Kheri on sunday 3 october. A total of 8 people had died in the incident. People were furious that even though the case was so dangerous, the son was not arrested and his father, the minister, continued doing his job. Ashish accepts that the SUV that ran over farmers belongs to him, but he said that he was not in it. On Thursday 7 October the Uttar Pradesh Police had called Ashish for questioning but he did not go. His father said that Ashish is not well and can not go to the police station. People were even more furious and said if a normal person ignored the police like that the police would have gone to their home and dragged them to the police station but Ashish was getting VIP treatment.  because of his minister father.Even the Supreme Court was angry and ordered the UP government and the police to follow the law and investigate the matter thoroughly without being partial. Finally on friday 8th October, Ashish appeared for questioning. According to top sources in the Uttar Pradesh Police, Ashish had said that he was at a programme when the incident happened. But people at the program said that he was missing from 2 and 4 pm and his phone location showed him closer to the crime scene. 


The police were not satisfied with Ashish's answers and felt suspicious. Ashish was questioned for 12 hours and the entire time Ashish gave evasive answers. Finally on Saturday he was placed under arrest. Shops, markets will remain shut in Maharashtra on Monday 11 October as the Uddhav Thackeray’s government has announced a 24-hour bandh across the state, to protest against the killing of farmers in Lakhimpur Kheri district of Uttar Pradesh.
