Mahalaxmi Express Stranded In Floods

The Central Railway (CR) has launched a probe into why the Mahalaxmi Express which was carrying 1,052 passengers got stuck in floods at Badlapur.

The Central Railway(CR) has launched a probe into why the Mahalaxmi Express which was carrying 1,052 passengers got stuck in floodwater, only minutes after two trains were able to cross the area on 26th and 27th July 2019.The Rescue operation took 8 hours and all passengers were rescued. 2 Helicopters and 6 boats were used in rescuing all the passengers that included 9 pregnant women. 37 doctors with a gynaecologist were deployed to help the passengers and arrangements were made for food and 14 buses and 3 tempos to help move all the people.

The CR has said that they think it was the sudden rise in water levels and as to why the other two trains did not warn the station that there was flooding. The investigation will also clarify why the train was allowed to leave Badlapur station, where there was already waterlogging. The CR received flak for running the Mahalaxmi Express even though local trains were told not to travel between Badlapur and Karjat. The Tracks and Equipment were badly damaged and will need lots of repair work. 300 workers are working 24/7 trying to get the train service back to normal.
