Lok Sabha Elections to Start from 11 April to 19 May

The Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sunil Arora announced that the 17th Lok Sabha Elections will be conducted in 7 phases from 11th April to May 19th. The votes will be counted on 23rd May.

On 10th March 2019 the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sunil Arora announced that the 17th Lok Sabha Elections for 543 will be conducted in 7 phases from 11th April to May 19th. The Election Commission (EC) has not taken any decision regarding the elections in J&K due to security reasons.

On 1st January 2019, 90 crores people were eligible to vote. Out of this more than 1.5 crores people are in the 18-19 age group. The CEC said that there are more than 10.35 lakh polling stations all over the country. 17.4 lakh units of VVPAT machines which are Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail, will be used for the first time.

The transport of these machines will be monitored through GPS installed in the transport vehicle.

The EC will keep a watch on all the political parties before and during the elections. They instructed all the candidates to follow the rules of the elections. Social Media accounts of all the parties will be strictly monitored. Facebook, Twitter, Google, WhatsApp and Share Chat have agreed to cooperate with the EC.

The votes will be counted on 23rd May.
