Legendary Actor Dilip Kumar Dies at 98

Legendary actor Dilip Kumar, who was popularly known as the tragedy king of Bollywood, passed away at the age of 98.

Bollywood legend Dilip Kumar has died in Mumbai's Hinduja Hospital. He was 98. Dilip Kumar was taken to hospital on 6 July after complaining of breathlessness. Sadly that's where he passed away.This was the second time he had been hospitalised in the same month. Dilip Kumar had been in and out of hospital over the last few years with illnesses ranging from a kidney ailment to pneumonia. A few years ago, the actor spent his 94th birthday in hospital where he was being treated for fever and a swollen leg. Dilip Kumar, who would have been 99 in December, is survived by his wife of over 50 years, Saira Banu. Dilip Kumar, real name Yusuf Khan, appeared in some of Indian cinema's most iconic and landmark films including Naya Daur, Mughal-e-Azam, Devdas.  

He started working in films from 1944 and his last film was released in 1998. Dilip Kumar received prestigious awards from the government like the Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan and the Dada Saheb Phalke award. He also received Pakistan's highest civilian honour, the Nishan-e-Imtiaz. You must all be aware about the famous Filmfare Awards. Interesting fact is that Dilip Kumar was the first winner of the Filmfare Best Actor Award. In total he has won eight Filmfare Best Actor awards in his life. No other actor has so many best actor awards except for Shah Rukh Khan. Dilip Kumar is listed in the Guinness World Records for winning the maximum number of awards by an Indian actor. His death has left a gaping void in the film industry.
