Kolkata: RG Kar Female Medical Student Found Hanging in Her Room

In a shocking incident, a 20-year-old second-year female medical student from Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital was found dead in her room at the ESI quarters in Kamarhati, Kolkata. The young student was discovered hanging from the ceiling fan, leaving her family, neighbours, and the medical community in deep shock.
The incident took place a few months ago, when the girl’s mother, who works at the nearby ESI hospital, had stepped out of their home. Upon returning, she knocked on the door repeatedly but received no response. Worried, she forced the door open and found her daughter hanging. Screaming for help, the mother and neighbours rushed the girl to the ESI hospital, where she was declared dead on arrival.
The local police were informed, and a case of unnatural death was registered at the Kamarhati police station. The girl’s body was sent for a post-mortem to determine the exact cause of death. Surprisingly, no suicide note was found in the room, and the family has not filed any formal complaints.
While the police have not yet released an official statement, some news reports suggest that the girl was suffering from chronic depression, which may have led her to take such a drastic step. However, the police have not ruled out other possibilities, including murder, and are continuing their investigation. They are awaiting the post-mortem report for further clarity.
