In October last year, the Metropolitan Magistrate’s court at Bandra had ordered the police to investigate a complaint filed by Munawwar Ali Sayyed, a Bollywood casting director and fitness trainer, which referred to tweets and statements by Kangana Ranaut and her sister Rangoli Chandel allegedly defaming Bollywood and spreading ‘division and hatred between Hindu and Muslim communities. On the direction of the court, the Bandra police registered an FIR against Kangana Ranaut and her sister. Now Kangana Ranaut has applied to renew her passport which expires on September 15 as she has to travel to Hungary for the shooting of her movie ‘Dhaakad’, from June 15 to August 30.

However her application was denied by the Passport Authority of India, as she has an FIR registered against her. Kanagan then filed a plea in the Bombay High Court. According to her, she said, “There are huge monetary investments made by production houses in booking such shooting locations, wherein the applicant is required to participate as an actress.” She has asked the court to tell the passport authority to renew her passport so she can go abroad for the shooting of her film.

Justice Prasanna B Varale heard the plea on Tuesday 15th June and said Ms Ranaut's failed to implead the Passport Authority as a party in the case and the application was "vague" and did not place all relevant facts on record. He told her to mend her application and adjourned the case to 25th June.
