Joe Biden Picks Kamala Harris as Vice President Candidate

Joe Biden announced that California Senator Kamala Harris as his running mate for the post of Vice President Candidate for the 2020 US Presidential Elections.

The US Presidential Elections will be held on 3rd November 2020. Joe Biden from the Democratic Party, was the Vice President for 8 years at the time of President Barack Obama. He will take part in the 2020 Presidential elections. Biden had pledged in March that he would select a woman as his Vice President. A woman has never served as President or Vice President in the US earlier. On 11th August Joe Biden announced that California Senator Kamala Harris will take part in elections as his running mate for the post of Vice President Candidate. She is the first Black woman and Indian origin woman to take part in the Presidential Elections. In a text message to supporters Biden said, “Together with you, we are going to beat Trump.”

Current President Donald Trump will also take part in the elections. If Trump wins, he will be the President for another 4 years. Mike Pence will contest for the post of Vice President along with Donald Trump. The coronavirus pandemic has claimed the lives of more than 1 lakh 50 thousand people in the US. The economy has collapsed because of the business closures and disruptions. There is also unrest across the country as Americans are protesting racism and police brutality. Biden is in a strong position because of Trump’s bad handling of the crises. Biden’s decision to select Kamala may help him secure votes from Black voters. 

Kamala Harris grew up in Oakland, California. Her father is a Jamaican and mother Indian. She got an undergraduate degree from Howard University and went on to obtain a law degree from the University of California.
